Private funding nearly doubled from 2023, reaching a level equal to 40% of the entire U.S. cybersecurity funding market, while European and Asian markets contracted. This outperformance underscores unwavering investor confidence in Israel’s unique innovation model, even amidst geopolitical complexities.

The sector’s strength is rooted in a mature and scalable ecosystem. Although cybersecurity firms constitute only 7% of Israel’s tech companies, they commanded  38% of total tech investment in 2024. This is a testament to their strategic importance and proven ability to scale. Compared to the broader Israeli tech landscape, cybersecurity companies show a significantly higher concentration of firms in the growth stage (16% vs. 7%) and employ more people, with 31% having over 50 employees compared to just 17% in the general tech ecosystem. This indicates superior scalability and a robust path to maturity.

Key drivers of this success include a constant influx of elite talent from military intelligence units, a global-first mindset that bypasses domestic market limitations, and a strategic shift toward a U.S.-style, capital-intensive growth model. Cybersecurity Israeli Market Data and Trends

The Israeli cybersecurity sector, which accounts for 7% of the overall tech ecosystem, currently boasts over 500 active companies. This sector has demonstrated remarkable growth over the past decade, surging by 65% from 319 companies in 2015 to a peak of 526 in 2025. This expansion significantly exceeds the 22% growth observed in the wider tech ecosystem during the same period.

Despite tech companies representing only 7% of the overall total, the Cyber sector consistently secures a significant portion of technology investments, underscoring its crucial role in Israel’s innovation landscape. This is evidenced by its share of tech investments, which has been around 25% over the past seven years and even higher, at 34%, in the most recent two years.

The Israeli cybersecurity sector, much like the overall tech ecosystem, is characterized by a strong presence of early-stage companies, accounting for 57%. This high proportion signals a healthy pipeline of innovative startups. However, a significant difference emerges in the later stages of growth. Cybersecurity companies demonstrate a considerably higher rate of maturity, with 16% in the growth stages, more than double the 7% observed across the broader Israeli tech ecosystem.

Mergers and acquisitions (M&As) appear to be the dominant exit strategy for cybersecurity companies. Data indicates that 12% of cyber companies are acquired before reaching maturity or going public, a significantly higher rate compared to 7% for later-stage companies (excluding those that become inactive post-acquisition). Conversely, only 2% of cyber companies go public, compared to 4% in other sectors. This pattern strongly suggests that many cyber companies are acquired as an exit strategy before they can develop into mature or publicly traded entities.

Israel’s tech ecosystem is largely composed of smaller companies, with 83% of startups employing a maximum of 50 people. The cybersecurity sector, however, demonstrates more diversity in company size. While the majority (69%) still have up to 50 employees, a significant 21% of cybersecurity firms employ 51-200 people, and 10% have over 200 employees. This contrasts with the broader tech ecosystem, where only 12% and 5% fall into these larger size categories, respectively.

This higher representation of cybersecurity companies in larger size categories, which often indicates a more advanced growth stage, suggests that these companies have superior scalability.

On one side of the spectrum, a wave of innovation is emerging to safeguard AI, from protecting large language models (LLMs) from data leakage and prompt injection, to securing the next generation of communication protocols like MCPs, and managing the risks introduced by autonomous AI agents.
